Auto Repair and the Myth of the "Magic Machine".
"Can't you just connect my car to a Magic Computer that will tell you exactly what's wrong with it and how to fix it?

This is a common Myth in the Auto Repair Business.True, diagnostics have evolved by leaps and bounds ,but is not in the Star Trek age....yet!

Todays modern computer-controlled vehicles are truly in the digital age.there are as many as 8 computers controlling everything from the engine, transmission, ciimate control system, body control module, and etc.Tracking down a problem and determining the process needed to repair the vehicles are still done the old fashioned way.a technician has to gather data by using his senses to see, feel, hear and smell, then collect the vehicle's stored data, and determine the best course of action/repair that need to be done.

The vehicles' on-board computers have the capability of recording the codes that cause a driveablity problem or service engine light to come on.these codes are used to determine what component or system that my be affected."the diagonstic scanner doesn't reveal the cause of the problem,it just tells the technician where to begin looking ,and most of the time other test may be needed.

To properly diagnose the problem or rather the cause of a check engine light, you need to take your vehicle to a trained technician for a professional diagnosis. Not to the local discount parts store where you will only find parts counter people and not a real auto technician, the truth is they are there to sell parts, not to fix cars and most people end up at the repair shop anyway with the same car trouble that they started with at the parts store, just with a lot less money.

Code readers are not scan tools. the information gathered from a scan tool is just a clue for the"Automotive Detective":

The real answer to the problem doesn't come magically out of a machine ,but rationally out of the technicians head,"THE REAL DIGANOSTIC TOOL"
